The Adventure Begins

Moving day soon appeared- time to move Maurice to its new temporary home in Kent before we headed to the Continent.

This would also be the first time Audrey had travelled with us in the motorhome.

After stowing away our belongings, we connected the car to the motorhome using the A Frame, which was an easy process.

We tried leaving Audrey loose in the motorhome but she was keen to move around and jumped on to the dash board to explore which startled John slightly! I popped her in to her carry case and she sat quite contently on my lap as we headed East towards Kent, looking out of the window and taking in the every changing views.

We have been to the site at Folkestone before so we already had an idea on where we would like to pitch- we founded a secluded and relatively flat pitch with the added benefit of having good reception for Eastenders!

Because we had been living in the motorhome for almost a week, it was time to get mundane chores out of the way- washing, cleaning the Maurice and sorting out the paperwork for our journey across the Channel.

Folkestone was a good stop over for two reasons- close enough for us to get to Dover in a timely fashion without having to get up too early and a good base for visiting my mother in Whitstable before we left.

We enjoyed a fantastic evening with her and marvelled at the progress of her beautiful garden which overlooks the sea.

Saturday morning came and we were ready to depart for Dover, slightly nervous as firstly, we were taking Audrey on a boat (first for her), first time taking an A Framed car and motorhome on the ferry and lastly, it was the moment when our long awaited dreams of full timing became reality.

We arrived at the port in good time and made our way to check in, worried we would need to bring Audrey out for a check but we were given a much earlier crossing and wished a good day.

Soon enough we were boarding the Pride of Canterbury and on our way to our new adventures in Europe.

I made sure Audrey had enough food and water, sprayed some Felliway and left her snuggled up on our bed as we made our way on deck to wave Dover off.

Soon enough we were arriving in Calais and heading South!
