Goodbye España!

Apologies for the delay in getting out a blog post recently - things have been super relaxed and we have become somewhat lazy in our ways.

We quite often sit outside until late, playing cards, having a glass of wine or reading, and have detached a little from our online worlds!

The television has not been on since we arrived in Spain six weeks ago and occasionally we will watch something on Netflix, but on the whole, we have had a little detox which feels rather liberating! It has also been really therapeutic to get back in to reading. I was once a veracious reader but that was before Instagram, Facebook etc and those can be terrible time stealers.

We are enjoying our last few days on site at Camping Kim's in Llafranc. We have been here since early August and the site is closing in two days. People with seasonal pitches have been on a frenzy of taking down gazebos, awnings, kitchen tents and clearing away other paraphernalia! A lot of these elaborate pitches have taken a lot of work to dismantle, and we have watched on from our simple set up of roll out awning, small camping table and two chairs, as people have dissembled their encampments. A lot of the people here have chest freezers, large domestic style fridges, special flooring, hanging lights and other bits and pieces.

Our neighbours opposite, Jen and John have been very kind and given us all sorts of treats from their freezer as they prepare to move offsite today. We have enjoyed several packs of farm shop sausages, spinach and goats cheese lasagna, Heinz baked beans etc!

It is an extremely friendly place and I can see why people come back year after year - a lot of the people around us have spent their summers here for over 27 years. You know people by name and they will say good morning to you, stop and chat; it is a community.

We have enjoyed drinks with neighbours and they are quick to share advice on destinations for day trips and the where to go for the best tapas. It has been exactly what we needed.

Our favourite treat is to make our way along the coastal road to stunning Tamariu - I will include some pictures below. We have a favourite beach, often to ourselves, where we set up camp. I pack a rug, a good book, bottled water and we can easily spend an afternoon there in the sunshine. We have lost track of time before and ended staying until 7pm, the sound of the water lapping on the shore very gentle and relaxing. On our walk back to the car, there is a gorgeous seafood restaurant with tables overlooking the larger beach where we sometimes enjoy a glass of cava and a cod croquette before heading home.

There are so many wonderful places to visit on this coast line so we haven't felt at all cooped up. A lot of this has been helped with having the car - many of the little coves and villages would not be accessible by motorhome, so the car has given us the freedom to venture out.

It has also been a talking point for people visiting with their motorhomes. I am so glad we had the A Frame and tow bar installed.

It was an expensive outlay and something we had been deliberating for many years, but we have saved an absolute fortune on car hire. Had we rented even a very modest car for the duration we have been here, it would have cost in excess of what we paid for the conversion so for us, it has been worthwhile.

Highlights of our stay here have been the picture postcard fishing village of Sa Tuna, the medieval town of Castille Pertallada, the buzz of vibrant Girona, where we met up with Sharon, Tony, Marsha & Steve and the delights of Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell, the beautiful fishing villages just a gentle stroll from our site.

We've also visited the extremely interesting Salvador Dali museum in Figueres, which I can recommend to anyone who has an interest in art. The exhibits are so varied - from traditional landscapes to jewel encrusted brooches with beating ruby hearts, sexually explicit statues and sketches to videos. We really enjoyed our visit and Figueres itself is an interesting town to visit in its own right. We are going to dedicate a blog post entirely to our visit there, so stay tuned for that!

Tossa De Mar is also a favourite of ours - forget the image of sky scrapers and high rise hotel complexes, this gem is low rise and quaint with a beautiful medieval old town, walled fortress and many beautiful beaches and coves. We rather enjoy a drive out for lunch and a mooch around!

There have been many other fabulous times - the many leisurely lunches out, the relaxing outside enjoying a card game or a nice dinner or just driving up to the Far Sebastia (lighthouse) to enjoy the sunset. We will miss this very much but we are equally excited for the next chapter, and that is exploring southern Spain and enjoying the delights of Portugal.
