Stunning Strasbourg

Leaving Cappy we headed for Soufflenheim - a small town close to the German border and dominated by potters and pottery shops. It's about 27 miles north of Strasbourg and had a Camping Car Parks Aire which are always well serviced and laid out. The journey there was interesting as we crossed the border from France into Belgium then into Luxembourg and through Germany before crossing back into France again. No border stations to worry about given the Schengen treaty - open borders across Europe (the UK never signed up to this). Travelling in Europe is just easy, generally the traffic is significantly lighter than in the UK and the roads are in the whole better maintained.

The day after we'd arrived here we set off for Strasbourg unsure of what to expect but ready to explore. We were blessed with the weather - a balmy 20c and cloudy with sunny spells as we'd been experiencing cold miserable rainy days since we arrived back in France.

Strasbourg is a wonderful city and goes up to our top 5 destinations in France. It is a large city, but is broken into distinct districts - our favourite being the enchanting "Petite France", which is so beautiful it could be mistaken as a movie set. Timber frame houses overlook bustling cobbled squares and the rivers are busy with tour boats. Think the Marais in Paris. It reminded us of parts of Brugge, Paris and Amsterdam, all rolled in to one! We spent the day exploring the city and enjoyed lunch near Petite France. The weather was glorious and it felt more like spring than a typical November day.

We could have spent a weekend in the town, but after a long day of exploring by foot, we headed back to the motorhome and to Audrey. Strasbourg has become a firm favourite for us and we hope to return in the future to visit the famous Strasbourg Christmas market.
